Compact Balances

Compact Balance - Nuweigh KK SeriesA low cost, high accuracy balance in three capacities, up to 5kg
Most errors in the laboratory start with wrong measurements.
A balance that reads just 0.1g over true weight has already introduced error into every result before a single test begins.
Compact laboratory balances give you the same measurement accuracy as full-sized bench balances. These units are compact enough to move between workstations and light enough to be carried into the field. They run on AC power or standard batteries.
Schools, research labs, food manufacturers, and hospitals in Australia use them every day. If accurate weighing matters to your work, start here.
Precision and Accuracy: A&D compact balances read to 0.01g on the HT Series and EK Series. An internal stabilisation system filters out vibration and air movement, so the reading stays stable even in busy lab environments.
Compact and Portable Design: Most models weigh under 2kg. The A&D HT-300 runs for up to 500 hours on four AA batteries. The EK Series runs approximately 250 hours per charge. No fixed power point required — take the balance to the sample, not the other way around.
Easy-to-Use Interface: Large backlit LCD screens — 16mm character height on EK Series models — stay readable at a wide viewing angle. Five-button navigation handles power, tare, unit switching, print, and mode selection. No manual needed.
Durable Construction: Stainless steel (SUS304) weighing pans resist chemicals. Sealed keypads block dust and liquid. Overload protection prevents load cell damage from accidental excess weight.
Multiple Weighing Modes: Switch between grams, ounces, carats, troy ounces, and Newtons. Counting mode calculates piece counts from a reference weight. Percentage mode compares a sample against a target — useful in formulation and quality control work.

Did You Know? |
Capacity — Know your heaviest regular sample. The A&D EK-1200i handles up to 1,200 g at 0.1 g readability. Heavier samples need higher-capacity models. Always leave a buffer — running a balance at its maximum capacity shortens load cell life.
Readability — Pharmaceutical and analytical work needs 0.01g. General lab and industrial use is well served by 0.1g.
Calibration — Some models use external weights. Others have internal auto-calibration. If your lab operates under GLP or GMP requirements, confirm the model supports GLP data output before you buy.
Environment — Working near water, chemicals, or dust? Choose a model with a sealed keypad and, for wet environments, an IP65-rated enclosure.
Portability — If the balance moves locations, battery operation and a carry handle matter.
Connectivity — RS-232C is standard across the A&D EK Series. USB output is available on selected models for direct data logging.

Able Scale has supplied weighing equipment to Australian laboratories, schools, and industries since 1970. We stock A&D Weighing — a brand with a proven track record for accuracy and long service life — alongside Rinstrum and Ishida.
Every balance we sell can be calibrated, serviced, and repaired from our base in Thomastown, Melbourne. When something needs attention, there's no overseas support queue and no shipping equipment offshore.
Our team gives technical advice before you buy and after delivery. We ship to every state and territory. Faults get resolved, not referred on.
A compact balance is a portable precision scale weighing under 2kg. It offers readabilities between 0.01g and 0.1g and fits on a standard bench.
Very much. The A&D HT Series is used in schools and universities in Australia. It can be used for subjects such as chemistry, biology, and physics.
Yes. They run on batteries as well. The A&D HT-300 runs up to 500 hours on four AA batteries. The EK Series runs approximately 250 hours.
The accuracy of compact balances matches that of full-sized bench balances in lab applications.
Compact laboratory balances should have a full calibration performed in-situ with an endorsed certificate according to NATA.
Internal calibration for labs under GLP or GMP should run daily before weighing sessions, and external calibration with certified weights should run monthly to quarterly.
The compact scale you choose should match the capacity of your heaviest regular sample, plus at least 20% headroom.
Yes, of course. Able Scale ships to all states and territories, including regional and remote areas in Australia.
Standard compact balances operate at up to 85% relative humidity, non-condensing. For wet or splash-prone environments, choose a model with an IP65 or higher enclosure rating.
Yes. A&D models can switch between grams, ounces, carats, troy ounces, and Newtons.
